The Ministry of Commerce Holds a Conference Call with the American Chamber of Commerce in China and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China to Help Enterprises Solve the Problems in Resuming Work and Production

To implement the guideline of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on February 23, coordinate the epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, on March 12 and 13, the Ministry of Commerce held two conference calls with the American Chamber of Commerce in China and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China to solve the problems encountered by members of the Chambers of Commerce in resuming work and production. Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative, attended the conference call.

Wang Shouwen expressed his gratitude to the Chambers of Commerce and their member companies for their contributions to China's fight against the epidemic. At present, China's domestic situation of epidemic prevention and control is constantly improving, and the resumption of the production and living orders is being accelerated. This conference call aims to help foreign-invested enterprises solve the problems encountered in resuming production so that they will resume production as soon as possible. The impact of the epidemic on China's economy is short-term and controllable. The long-term sound trend of China's economy will not change. China will further open up, and the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of foreign investment will be further strengthened. We hope that U.S. and EU enterprises will firm up their confidence and continue to increase their investment in China.

The American Chamber of Commerce in China and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China expressed their gratitude to the Chinese government for innovating its working methods in special periods, and for maintaining close contact with the Chambers of Commerce and the member enterprises. They highly appreciated the Chinese government's working attitude of being realistic and pragmatic, and hope to continuously strengthen communication and timely give feedback on the needs and suggestions of enterprises so as to jointly help enterprises comprehensively resume production and operation as early as possible and win the battle of epidemic prevention and control.

The conference invited relevant heads of 10 departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Transport to jointly answer the questions raised by enterprises concerning the impacts of the epidemic on China's economy, corporate assistance policies, labor shortages, insufficient epidemic prevention materials, unsmooth logistics, as well as the upstream and downstream resumption of work. More than 200 member enterprises from the American Chamber of Commerce in China and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China participated in the conference call.
